NSI Balance Module
The visual system is essential to efficient functioning of the vestibular system, and the vestibular system is essential for the efficient functioning of the visual system.
The two systems are intimately related and, in a normally functioning brain, there is a 1:1 correlation between the vestibular and visual system; every time the vestibular system is stimulated a message is sent to the extra-ocular muscles, and every time there is an eye movement a message is sent to the vestibular system.
The Balance Program for the NSI was developed with a number of objectives in mind:
1. To give feedback patients that will help them to develop adequate ability to deal effectively and efficiently with gravity and to control balance.
2. To add feedback on balance to other SVI programs, especially those involving eye movements, to integrate and build flexibility between the oculomotor system and the vestibular system.
3. To evaluate and document the effect of yoked prisms on midline shift, posture, and balance.
